Instron’s Engineered Solutions Group (ESG) consists of a small, cross functional team of mechanical and electrical engineers that work closely with sales, marketing, and customers to provide unique custom solutions for the material testing industry. This group works at a fast pace designing, building, and testing a variety of solutions ranging from customer-specific test fixtures to custom electromechanical test frames. ESG engineers are involved in projects throughout the entire life cycle including quoting, designing, procurement, manufacturing, and installation of systems making this co-op the perfect opportunity for unique exposure to the entire engineering process. Co-op students will have the ability to drive their designs through the entire product development lifecycle, from concept generation to a final product delivered to a customer.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership over custom design projects from inception to completion
- Manage concurrent projects at different phases of the design process
- Modify existing or design new products, parts, and fixtures
- Use SolidWorks to model parts, assemblies and create drawings for manufacturing
- Work with ESG manufacturing technicians to assist with build
- Work with sales engineers to quote custom solutions that meet unique customer needs
- Participate and lead design reviews for new products
Basic Qualifications:
- Design experience (show us your portfolio if you have one!)
- SolidWorks 3D modeling experience (CSWA Preferred)
- Strong hands-on abilities with hand tools or strong desire to learn
- Robust communication skills to work with different departments
- Ability to work independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- SolidWorks Simulation FEA analysis
- SolidWorks drawing skills using exploded views, hole callouts, and other basic drawing features
- Experience structuring Bills of Materials
