Welcome to the Heebner Career Development Center Parent & Family Resources page—a dedicated space designed to empower and assist parents, families, and other supporters of WPI students.

We hope to provide you with valuable insights into the resources and support available at the Heebner Career Development Center, ensuring a successful journey for your student at WPI. We strongly encourage students to engage with us early and consistently throughout their academic journey. Our experienced and dedicated team is here to empower and support them in making informed decisions about their professional paths.

  • Handshake – Handshake is our career services platform for students and alumni. On Handshake, students have access to employment and career resources, including job/internship postings, HCDC events, and career fairs. Additionally, students can schedule their advising appointments through Handshake.
  • Drop-In Hours–Trained peer advisors can answer quick questions or review a resume. Drop-ins are 10-15- minute chats every Mon-Fri 12pm-4pm when classes are in session Drop-ins operate on a “first come, first served” basis.  Students check in at the gray desk across from room 520 in Unity Hall.

Common Questions:

When should my student visit the HCDC? The earlier, the better! We offer services to students as early as their first year.

How does my student meet with a career advisor? Appointments are scheduled through your student’s Handshake account.

How does the HCDC support diverse student populations? The HCDC is committed to serving all students at WPI. We offer career related resources and events focused on topics including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, first-generation college students, ability, class, and other identity-based experiences.

What companies and employers recruit at WPI? Thousands of companies recruit WPI students through job postings, internships, “Talent Tabling” on campus, networking events, and career fairs. Check out the WPI First Destination Dashboard to view employers who have hired WPI students.

Can my student use the HCDC after they graduate from WPI?  Yes- The HCDC serves WPI alumni for life!

  • Additional CDC Offerings The Talent Table Throughout the year, employers across industries want to talk to you at the Career Corner. They take over the space and share about their company, open positions, and more! This is open to all students at WPI and often alumni who can't wait to talk to you! This is a great networking opportunity! Career Fairs The CDC offers 2 in-person career fairs, both in the Fall and the Spring. About 200 companies usually attend. A few Virtual Career Fairs are also offered each year. We also support student organization-sponsored events such as the Sustainability Networking Night, and more! Workshop Wednesdays These Workshops Wednesdays are lead by CDC peer advisors who have received extensive training on each topic they teach and can offer a student perspective. Topics Include: Discovering Majors and Careers Interviewing The Art of Small Talk How to Sell Your Project Experience How to Work a Virtual Career Fair Job Offer/Salary Negotiation Note: We encourage you to attend these workshops but you can also come to drop-ins to discuss these topics too. Events Such as Resumazing Resumazing: You can have your resume reviewed by employers. Receive feedback directly from employers, many of which are alumni! Fireside Chats: You can learn about various career-related topics more in depth.
  • CDC Offerings on Handshake Appointment Topics and Mediums: Discovering Majors & Careers, Graduate School, Intern/Co-op/Job Search Process, Interview Prep, Job Offers Networking & Career Fair, Career Development Center Overview, Appointment Mediums: Appointments can be in person or virtual Drop-ins Available: The CDC offers Drop-ins Monday-Friday.
